What if I started to write an old love song, what if the words all felt new?
I'd laugh and I'd cry at the life that had gone missing, but then I'd know what I was to do.
Would I believe I was saying, could I believe it was true?
Well I'd cast a stone. I'd cast one for you
What if I found myself staring in darkness? The message carved in the wall goes all the way through.
Well I'd grasp and I'd claw my way to see what was written.
And I'd stand alone, but I'd be there with you
And though I would know it was futile
I'd still do what I had to do
I'd say a prayer, I'd say one for you.
Though I may drive you away from me
That which I feel through and through
What if I knew.
What if you looked in my eyes and I couldn't return it?
Watching me run away would be my debut.
Well I'd slip and I'd slide and fall into perdition.
I'd try to climb out, but I'd know I was through.
But then you would reach down and catch me
Clutching your soul as I do
I'd climb out, and so would you.
Though you may drive me away from you
That which you feel through and through
What if I knew
